Income Differences, Productivity, and Input-Output Networks

چکیده

We study the importance of input-output (IO) linkages and sectoral productivity (TFP) in determining cross-country income differences. find that while highly connected sectors are more productive than typical sector poor countries, opposite is true rich ones. To assess quantitative role TFP differences differences, we decompose variation using a multisector general equilibrium model. IO substantially amplify fundamental variation, but this amplification significantly weaker one suggested by simple model with an aggregate intermediate good. (JEL D57, E16, E23, O11, O47)

An Input-output Approach to the Measurement of Productivity Differences*

This paper deals with the measurement of e¢ciency di¤erences among countries within a federation. The key tool is the use of a suitable interpretation of the non-substitution theorem in order to get a natural technological standard. Two alternative indices are proposed. One provides a structural productivity measure, independent of consumption and prices. The other consists of a price index ass...

An Input - Output Assessment of Employment, Efficiency, Income Distribution and Growth Strategies in Iran

This Paper has used a multisectoral input-output model of Iranian economy to examine the ability of different sectors of economy to create jobs per unit of output as well as capital. The results reveal that there is no conflict in a growth strategy that simultaneously attempts to improve efficiency i.e. reallocating production to sectors with low DRCs, equity and job creation. Although sectoral...

Output, Input, and Productivity Measurement in U.S. Agriculture, 1948-79

Tornqvist-Theil indexes of outputs and inputs are constructed. These data are used to construct indexes of productivity growth over the postwar period. The productivity indexes can be derived from a flexible multioutput-multifactor representation of the structure of production constrained to constant returns to scale. Total factor productivity grew at an average annual rate of 1.75%, compared w...
